SALISBURY — The Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, which has cut employees’ pay to deal with a $1.3 million deficit, wants to restore full pay as soon as possible, according to its board chairman.
Donna White-Cook issued this statement this morning:
“Due to budgetary issues, SRCAA had to adjust salaries to align with the payment reimbursement from our funding sources. Like many non-profit organizations, the simple fact is that our funding sources are limited. Nevertheless, the SRCAA Inc. is doing everything possible to ensure employee salaries return to their normal levels.
“The agency’s employees are our greatest resource. SRCAA values its employee hard work, loyalty and dedication to the families we serve. SRCAA’s Board of Directors is diligently working to effectively communicate any necessary changes to all employees impacted.”
At a Thursday meeting, employees of the nonprofit agency took the board of directors to task for cutting their pay by 10 percent. The SRCAA operates Head Start and a few other programs. Most of its funds come from the federal government.
Wood said Thursday night that the board was required to make unexpected and unbudgeted adjustments to meet funding standards.
In recent months, the agency has lost its executive director, finance director, accounting manager and Head Start director. Pete Kennedy, a former member of Salisbury City Council, is serving as interim executive director.
