Police: Teen shot on Filbert Street

SALISBURY — Police have provided few details following a Monday afternoon shooting during which a teen was shot. No arrests have been made and police do not have a detailed description of the suspect or suspects involved.

Police said Tamin Kenyon Benjamin, 17, was shot in the leg in the 1400 block of Filbert Street, near Ackert Avenue and Roy Street, in the neighborhood of the VA Medical Center. He was taken to Novant Rowan Medical Center by private vehicle and does not have life-threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. while Benjamin was on foot. Police have not said if this shooting was a drive-by or if the suspect or suspects were also on foot. Police Capt. Shelia Lingle did say the incident was not a random crime.
