Livingstone’s men’s basketball team improved offensively on Sunday but couldn’t slow down Clark Atlanta in a 91-76 road loss.
The Blue Bears shot 46.2 percent for the game and 50 percent in the second half, but Clark Atlanta shot a torrid 60 percent in the second half and made 12 3-pointers in the game.
David Duncan led the Blue Bears (2-6) with 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting.
Shukur Jinad scored 12 points, and Darryl Bond and Ramel Belfield added 11 apiece.
Livingstone’s large edge on the boards was negated by losing the turnover battle, 17-9.
Livingstone led 14-3 early in the contest, but Clark Atlanta moved in front, 44-35, by halftime.
Livingstone got within four points on several occasions in the second half before Clark Atlanta finally pulled away.
Five Clark Atlanta Panthers (7-4) scored in double figures, led by Derek Harper (20) and Tim Sanders (18).
The game was part of the L.S. Epps Memorial Basketball Challenge.

Sacred Heart won four games against North Hills.
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys beat the Eagles, 32-30, on a late shot by Will Webb.
Ben Childress scored 11 points, Nick Antosek had nine, and Luke Graeber made a big 3-pointer.

Sacred Heart’s varsity girls won against North Hills, 32-23. Rachel McCullough led the Dolphins with 12 points, and Sutton Webb had 11. Theresa Holland played great defense.

The Sacred Heart jayvee boys defeated North Hills, 36-29. Curtis Walker had 12 points. Kaiden Dulkoski had eight points and eight rebounds. Cooper Fleeman and John David Bonilla had four points each.

In the jayvee girls game, Sacred Heart won against North Hills, 20-8.
Maggie Antosek scored five points, and Gianna Patella had four. Angelina Pierson led the defense.

College swimming
Catawba took on the two-time defending D-II swimming and diving champions Queens on Saturday at the Levine Center Pool. The Queens men’s won 135-96 over the Indians, while the Queens women posted a 133-75 win.
McKenzie Stevens (Salisbury) won the 200 and 500 freestyle races for Queens.
Catawba returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 14, hosting Wingate at 1 pm.

College football
Quarterback Justin Dvorak of Colorado School of Mines won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top player in Division II.
Newberry QB Raleigh Yeldell finished ninth in the voting.

Parks and Rec
The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department is holding registration for its coed (ages 5-6) and girls (ages 7-15) basketball leagues. Cost is $30 per participant. Registration runs through Jan. 14 at Hall Gym or online at www.salisburync.gov/play.
