East Rowan High School’s Winter Concert 

Dec. 19: The 145-voice choral department of East Rowan High School will present music ranging from “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” to Mariah Carey’s “One Child.”

The concert will be held in the school’s auditorium at 175 St. Lukes Church Road, at 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:45.

The concert is free and open to the public. Dean Orbison is in his 21st year as choral director at East.

 

Comics at Fault sponsors second annual charitable fundraiser

It’s the second annual Jacques’ New Years Eve Gala! Join us for a 1950s Enchantment Under the Sea themed prom at Lee Street Theatre, 329 N. Lee St., on Dec. 31 at 9 p.m.

Hosted by Jacques Belliveau of Comics at Fault, there will be live music from Paper Wasps and other special guests. Food will be provided by Mambo Grill and Tapas and a cash bar featuring Salsibury’s own New Sarum brewery will be featured.

Ring in the new year supporting a great cause: proceeds benefit Prevent Child Abuse Rowan and the Terrie Hess House.

Salisburian Brian Romans is a well-known member of the comedy group Comics at Fault, which is a part of The C.E. Riggleman Foundation, a non-profit Jacques “Jack” Belliveau established to be able to put on events to raise money for charitable causes.

Last New Year’s Eve was the first event, a gala that raised more than $4,000 for Prevent Child Abuse Rowan and The Terrie Hess house, the child abuse advocacy center.

Then, in January he lost a close friend to Multiple Sclerosis and did what any logical comedian/personal trainer would do — he rented out the McGlohon Theatre in Charlotte and put on the group’s second event, “Comics at Fault present: Stand up against MS-A night of comedy” to benefit the National MS Society.

Auditions for ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ 

St. Thomas Players, theater company of Center for Faith & the Arts, and producing partner Lee Street theatre announce auditions for “The Diary of Anne Frank,” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, adapted by Wendy Kesselman, on Jan. 8 and 9, Sunday and Monday, at 7 p.m. at Lee Street theatre. The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. Claudia Galup, artistic director of St. Thomas Players, directs.

The production runs from Feb. 23-March 4. Rehearsals will be held in the evenings, typically Sunday-Thursday, from 7-9:30 p.m. Please bring a list of conflicts to auditions. Scripts are available for check-out at Lee Street.

Beekeeper class offered

The Rowan County Beekeepers and Rowan County Cooperative Extension will hold a 9-week Beginner’s Beekeeping School. The course is 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays, from Jan. 17-March 14, 2017 at the Rowan County Cooperative Extension office on Old Concord Road.

New beekeepers will learn basic skills and established beekeepers can learn more, providing necessary information about bees, beekeeping, tools and equipment, as well as helpful resources.

The course is being taught by RCBA Master Beekeeper Bryan Fisher and Journey Beekeepers Marcel Renn and Randy Cox.

Cost is $60 per person and includes handouts, beginner beekeeping book, membership into RCBA and a field day event to be announced. Pre-registration is required as there is limited seating.
