Unemployment slightly decreases for Rowan and surrounding counties for October

RALEIGH – Rowan County’s unemployment rate slightly decreased for October.

According to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, unemployment rates went up in 44 counties and decreased in 22 counties for the month of October. The rate for 34 counties stayed the same.

The unemployment rates were not seasonally adjusted.

The statewide unemployment rate for October was 4.9 percent, an increase from September’s rate of 4.8 percent.

Rowan County’s unemployment rate decreased to 5.2 percent from 5.3 percent in September. The rate in October of last year was 5.7 percent. October’s rate put Rowan County at 58th in the state for October’s unemployment rates.

Cabarrus County’s rate remained steady at 4.3 percent. The rate for the county in October 2015 was 4.9 percent. The county ranked 15th in the state for October.

Davidson County saw a slight decrease in its unemployment rate. The rate for October was 4.5 percent, a decrease from September’s 4.6 percent and last October’s 5.3 percent. The county ranked 28th in the state.

Davie County’s unemployment rate also slightly decreased. The rate for October was 4.3 percent. The rate in September was 4.4 percent and it was 4.9 percent in October 2015. Davie County ranked 12th in the state for October.

Iredell County’s unemployment rate for October was 4.4 percent, compared to September’s 4.5 percent and a rate of 5.2 percent in October 2015. The county ranked 19th in the state.

Stanly County saw a slight increase in its unemployment rate. October’s rate was 4.6 percent while it was 4.5 percent in September. It was 5.1 percent in October 2015. The county ranked 34th in the state.

Robeson County replaced Scotland County as the county with the highest unemployment rate in the state for October, at 10.3 percent. Buncombe County continued its streak as the county with the lowest unemployment rate at 3.6 percent.
