SALISBURY — Hood Theological Seminary will hold a service of Lessons and Carols on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Aymer Center on the seminary campus. This moving service originated at King’s College, Cambridge, England in the early part of the twentieth century and is observed widely today to celebrate the holy season of Advent. The service is open to the public and all are welcome.

Dr. Bradley R. Trick, assistant professor of New Testament, will deliver the homily. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a Th.M. and M.Div. from Regent College and a Ph.D. from Duke University. Trick has taught New Testament at Hood since 2010. His first book, “Abrahamic descent, testamentary adoption and the law in Galatians: Differentiating Abraham’s sons, seed and children of promise,” is volume 169 in Brill’s “Novum Testamentum Supplements” series published August 2016. He is also the author of “Death, covenants and the proof of resurrection in Mark 12:18-27” appearing in “Novum Testamentum” volume 49, published in 2007. His principal interests include Pauline theology, the unity of the testaments, the biblical stages of development through which believers progress on their way to maturity and the ways in which the gospel creates interdependence between different genders, generations and races or ethnicities. He currently resides in Salisbury with his wife Elizabeth and their two children.

Hood Theological Seminary, sponsored by the A.M.E. Zion Church, is a graduate and professional school where intellectual discourse and ministerial preparation occur in tandem within the framework of a community of faith. Its student body currently comprises people from many different denominations. Hood’s purpose is to educate and prepare its students for leadership in various ministries and vocations to which they feel called of God. As a theological seminary, it provides for the church an educational community in which Christian maturity and ministerial preparation take place together.
