Campaign sign cleanup deadline is Friday

RALEIGH Almost two weeks have passed since Election Day, but there are still numerous campaign signs for local, state and national offices along roads and highways.
A state law passed in 2011 allows campaign signs to be in the state road right of way as early as 30 days before the start of early voting until 10 days after Election Day. That 10-day post-election deadline is Friday, Nov. 18.
The Department of Transportation reminds candidates and campaigns that they need to remove signs in the right of way by Friday. Signs still in place after the deadline are in violation of state law, and the department is authorized to remove the remaining signs and dispose of them.
