Jason Petrea made a hole-in-one at Corbin Hills on Thursday.
Petrea aced the 178-yard No. 16 hole with a 2-iron.

Mid. school hoops
Erwin’s girls won, 42-17, against West Rowan.
Lani Isley had 12 points for the Eagles. Carleigh Perry had nine, Jenna Robinson scored seven, and Colbie Perry and Liza Simmerson added six each.
Erwin plays North Rowan at home on Monday.

Knox’s girls won, 27-15, against China Grove.
Ellen Yang led Knox with 12 points. Jahavanik Horton scored nine.
Carli Moore scored eight for the Red Devils, while Kelsey Heminy had seven.

Erwin’s boys defeated West Rowan, 47-11.
Landon Shuping scored 14, Gavin Sprinkle had 10, and Thomas Miller had seven points for the Eagles.
The Erwin boys will host North Rowan on Monday at 4 p.m.

Concord’s Stephen Carroll signed with East Carolina’s golf program on Thursday.

Prep soccer
SPC champ Cox Mill (24-4-1) advanced in the 3A state playoffs on Thursday with a 3-0 win against West Henderson.
The Chargers got goals from Zack Savage, Jordan Clark and Scott Long to reach the state quarterfinals.
Marvin Ridge eliminated Concord, 4-0. Cox Mill will take on Asheville A.C. Reynolds next.

Prep football
There are no football games tonight locally, as teams in the eastern part of the state finish up a regular season affected by Hurricane Matthew. Playoff pairings will be announced Saturday.
Davie County and A.L. Brown will be in the 4A state playoffs. West Rowan will be in the 3A playoffs, and East Rowan is expected to be in the 3A playoffs.
Carson is expected to be in the 3AA playoffs.
North Rowan will be in the 2A playoffs.

Women’s hoops
The Catawba women’s basketball season gets under way tonight at Goodman Gym.
Catawba will host Mount Olive at 8 p.m. as part of the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge. Queens will play Barton at 6 p.m. prior to Catawba’s contest.
On Saturday, Queens will play Mount Olive at 2 p.m., and Catawba will take on Barton at 4 p.m.

Men’s hoops
In the Peach Belt/SAC Challenge in Hickory, Catawba will play Francis Marion tonight at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., Lenoir-Rhyne will battle UNC Pembroke.
On Saturday, Catawba plays UNCP at p.m. L-R tangles with FMU at 8 p.m.

College volleyball
The South Atlantic Conference has four teams in the Southeast Regional rankings. Wingate is No. 2, followed by Lincoln Memorial at No. 5 and Queens at No. 6. Catawba, 3-0 last week, is No. 10.
