Food bits: Help for military, early turkey and harvest doings

K&W Cafeterias will celebrate Veteran’s Day on Friday, Nov. 11, by thanking  veterans and active duty military personnel  with a free dinner that includes their choice of entrée, two vegetables, bread and beverage.

Military ID or proof of military service will be required. This offer will be extended to dine-in or takeout customers during dinner from 4 p.m. to closing.

Turkey Gumbo

46th Annual Louisiana Turkey Gumbo sponsored by Sacred Heart Catholic Daughters  will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 385 Lumen Christi Lane, Salisbury.

Eat in or take out. The $8 meal includes gumbo, rice, salad, punch bowl cake, drink and a roll.

Quarts (gumbo only, rice not included), $10. They will also have handmade centerpieces for sale.

All proceeds support CDA service projects such as church functions and local charities.

Harvest Market

On Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., the Lexington Farmers Market is presenting its annual Harvest Market.

There will be a lot of activities for young and old as well as a wide selection of vendors to help you get in the holiday spirit.

Ken Davis will entertain all morning.

For your culinary delight, a gourmet hotdog truck and roasted corn truck will be on hand as well as the return of Old South Kettle Corn.

Bakers will offer their breads and some sweet treats.

You’re welcome to sit a spell and treat yourself while listening to the music.

Fresh greens, broccoli and other fall crops will be available. Many of the regular vendors will offer their meat, eggs, flowers, plants, pottery, soaps, cider and more.

Fall and Christmas decorations, jewelry, wood-working, crochet, quilts and other special crafts will help you start your Christmas shopping.
