Salisbury girls defeat Brevard in 2A tennis playoffs

SALISBURY — Salisbury defeated Brevard, 5-1, in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A dual teams tournament, Tuesday afternoon at home.
The Hornets, now 13-1 on the season, will play in the second round next Tuesday, traveling to No. 1 seed Maiden. West Davidson fell to Maiden yesterday.
Salisbury was led by No. 1 singles player Maria Capito, a junior, dispatched Aly Henneberry, 6-1, 6-1. Individually, Capito will participate in the state tournament this weekend in Cary.
Also winning for the Hornets on Tuesday were: No 3 Bethanie Stauffer, a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Bailey Shuler; No. 4 Rachel Seifer, a 6-2, 6-1 victor over Hannah Stansel; No. 5 Rainey Dunham defeated Meredith Hooper, 6-4, 6-0; and No. 6 Ruth Clement, a senior, was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Jane Holland.
