West Rowan’s boys soccer team won a 3-2 SPC decision against South Rowan on Senior Night in Mount Ulla.
Cristyan Cabrera had a goal and an assist for the Falcons.
Senior Bryson Pope had a goal for the Falcons on a penalty kick, his first goal of the season. Darreon Gittens also scored, while Jose Martinez had an assist.
For South, Eber Tapia and German Delgado scored goals. John Fulton had an assist.

West Rowan’s girls tennis team lost 5-3 in the first round of the 3A playoffs on Tuesday at Canton Pisgah.

Belmont Abbey posted a 3-1 win over Catawba in men’s soccer on Tuesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Crusaders improved to 5-8-2, while the Catawba Indians fell to 9-6.
Ian Orr scored on a penalty kick for the Indians.
Christian Watts had five saves in goal for Catawba.

Prep golf
Carson senior Micah Furr shot 86-83 — 169 in the girls golf 3A State Championships at Longleaf.
Furr tied for 13th place at 25-over.
Chapel Hill’s Gina Kim won the individual title with rounds of 69 and 71.
Rockingham County shot 503 for the team title. Burlington Williams was second, while Northern Guilford was third.

Clinton’s Amy Wooten won the individual 1A/2A State Championship by 13 shots at Foxfire Resort’s Grey Fox Course. She is the first individual state champion from Clinton.
West Davidson ran away with the team competition, as the Dragons blew away the field thanks to Rachel Mast’s third place finish and Olivia Sharpe’s pair of sub-90 rounds.
Franklin Academy finished second.
Gray Stone Day finished in third place with Lauren Denhard posting a 46-over par 190 for her two day total, finishing in a tie for 29th place individually. Teammate Grasyn Waisner added a 33rd place finish at 50-over par 194.

Jenny Chang fought off a valiant effort by Charlotte Catholic’s Keri Kenkel to dethrone the reigning champion at the 4A State Championships at Pinehurst No. 5.
The day one leader by a single shot, Chang, carded a pair of identical 1-under par 71’s on her way to a 2-under, 142 tournament finish. Her second round was highlighted by three birdies.

College men’s golf
Livingstone’s men’s golf team concluded play at the Virginia State Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Livingstone and University of Maryland-Eastern Shore tied for second place in the field. Both teams recorded team scores of 308 on Monday and 306 on Tuesday.
Virginia Union finished in first place with a two-day total of 605.
Stephen Washington of Livingstone earned individual medalist honors.
He carded a 69 in the opening round and shot a 72 on Tuesday. Philip Harrison also made all-tournament team.

The George Mason men’s golf team completed its fall season with a seventh place finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
Junior Eric Edwards (Salisbury) finished the three-round tournament tied for eighth place at 1-under.
Edwards ended the final round with three birdies on the back nine to finish with a two-under par 69, his best round of the tournament.
Edwards shot 70 and 73 in the first two rounds.

College volleyball
Catawba swept host Coker in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at the DeLoach Center. The Indians won by the scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-23, improvedto 10-10 overall and 8-7 in the SAC. The Cobras fell to 11-12 and 3-12.
Bri Howard led Catawba with 16 kills and added four blocks. Meredith Furr racked up 20 digs and Rachel Stanford handed out 40 assists.

Stephen Washington of Livingstone earned individual medalist honors.

West Rowan’s girls tennis team lost 5-3 in the first round of the 3A playoffs on Tuesday at Canton Pisgah.
Pisgah was able to pick up its fifth win as darkness was settling on the school complex.
Pisgah (15-3) will play at Concord in the second round.

Playoff pairings were announced on Tuesday. First-round games are today. Standard starting time is 6 p.m.
In 3A, No. 4 seed Carson is home against 13th-seeded Asheville A.C. Reynolds. West Rowan is at No. 5 seed Enka. South Rowan is at No. 3 seed Gastonia Forestview. Cox Mill, a No. 1 seed, hosts Crest.
In 2A, Salisbury travels to Brevard.
In 4A, Davie County will host Myers Park.

College mens’ soccer
Belmont Abbey posted a 3-1 win over Catawba in men’s soccer on Tuesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Crusaders improved to 5-8-2, while the Catawba Indians fell to 9-6.
Ian Orr scored on a penalty kick for the Indians.
Christian Watts had five saves in goal for Catawba.

Prep golf
Carson senior Micah Furr shot 86-83 — 169 in the girls golf 3A State Championships at Longleaf.
Furr tied for 13th place at 25-over.
Chapel Hill’s Gina Kim won the individual title with rounds of 69 and 71.
Rockingham County shot 503 for the team title. Burlington Williams was second, while Northern Guilford was third.

Clinton’s Amy Wooten won the individual 1A/2A State Championship by 13 shots at Foxfire Resort’s Grey Fox Course. She is the first individual state champion from Clinton.
West Davidson ran away with the team competition, as the Dragons blew away the field thanks to Rachel Mast’s third place finish and Olivia Sharpe’s pair of sub-90 rounds.
Franklin Academy finished second.
Gray Stone Day finished in third place with Lauren Denhard posting a 46-over par 190 for her two day total, finishing in a tie for 29th place individually. Teammate Grasyn Waisner added a 33rd place finish at 50-over par 194.
Anika Kuleba was the third scorer for Gray Stone.

Jenny Chang fought off a valiant effort by Charlotte Catholic’s Keri Kenkel to dethrone the reigning champion at the 4A State Championships at Pinehurst No. 5.
The day one leader by a single shot, Chang, carded a pair of identical 1-under par 71’s on her way to a 2-under, 142 tournament finish. Her second round was highlighted by three birdies.

College men’s golf
Livingstone’s men’s golf team concluded play at the Virginia State Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Livingstone and University of Maryland-Eastern Shore tied for second place in the field. Both teams recorded team scores of 308 on Monday and 306 on Tuesday.
Virginia Union finished in first place with a two-day total of 605.
Stephen Washington of Livingstone earned individual medalist honors.
He carded a 69 in the opening round and shot a 72 on Tuesday. Philip Harrison also made all-tournament team.

Edwards update
The George Mason men’s golf team completed its fall season with a seventh place finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
Junior Eric Edwards (Salisbury) finished the three-round tournament tied for eighth place at 1-under.
Edwards ended the final round with three birdies on the back nine to finish with a two-under par 69, his best round of the tournament.
Edwards shot 70 and 73 in the first two rounds.

College volleyball
Catawba swept host Coker in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at the DeLoach Center. The Indians won by the scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-23, improvedto 10-10 overall and 8-7 in the SAC. The Cobras fell to 11-12 and 3-12.
Bri Howard led Catawba with 16 kills and added four blocks. Meredith Furr racked up 20 digs and Rachel Stanford handed out 40 assists.
