From staff reports
Salisbury piled up 458 yards of offense, but still lost at Thomasville, 28-26, on Friday in CCC football action.
The Hornets (2-7, 1-2 CCC) got 104 rushing yards and a touchdown from Trell Baker. Cameron Horne rushed for 97 yards and scored three TDs. Marcus Corry added 62 rushing yards, while Tyquan Jones accounted for 153 yards rushing and passing.
Thomasville’s big plays — including three fumble recoveries, a long fumble return and a blocked punt — negated Salisbury’s huge statistical advantage.
Horne’s first TD and Joe Steinman’s PAT briefly gave the Hornets a 7-6 lead, but the Bulldogs went ahead 21-6 at halftime.
Horne’s second TD pulled the Hornets closer, but Thomasville (4-5, 2-1 CCC) held a 28-13 edge when the Hornets made their final push.
Baker broke a 34-yard scoring run to cut the deficit to 28-20 with 4:50 remaining, and then the Hornets recovered an onside kick.
Horne scored with 50 seconds left to make it 28-26. But Thomasville stopped a run by Baker on the two-point try. He was tackled near the goal line.
