UMA meetings today, tomorrow

The United Ministerial Alliance will meet at 11 a.m. today at Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St. Clergy welcomed.

The United Ministerial Alliance will host its joint worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St. The Rev. Samuel A. Washington is the host pastor. Evangelist Shelia Bush of Fairview Heights Baptist Church is the guest preacher.

Lyerly Evangelical ‘luau’ 

ROCKWELL — “Lyerly Luau” is the theme of the annual missions conference at Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, beginning with a pulled pork meal at 5 p.m. today, and continuing with breakfast on Sunday at 9 a.m. All activities will be held on the church lawn under a big tent.

Stan Hankins of Honolulu, Hawaii, will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday service. Hankins is an international evangelist with Ambassadors for Christ. He will also play the ukulele and sing on Saturday evening.

Representatives of 10 of the 23 missions supported by Lyerly will attend the missions conference.

Sandy Ridge’s 46th homecoming

LANDIS — The historic Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church will observe homecoming and Fall revival services beginning Sunday with the 10 a.m. service. Pastor Clarence J. Shuford Jr., will deliver the morning homecoming message. Music will be rendered by the Sandy Ridge Gospel Choir and FRESH, under the direction of C. Eugene Caldwell, Janet Murdock, with Ron Graham and LeMarcus Foard, percussionists.

Guest minister for the 3 p.m. service is  the Rev. Dr. Willie Funderburke, pastor of Mt. Olivet AME Zion Church of Greensboro.

The annual Fall revival will run for three nights.

Monday: the Rev. Reginald Keitt, pastor of Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church, Statesville;

Tuesday: the Rev. David Smalls, pastor of Liberty AME Zion Church, Cooleeme;

Wednesday: the Rev. J. Ruth Davis, pastor of Shiloh AME Zion Church, Statesville.

Lay Day at Moore’s Chapel 

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, will observe Lay Day on Sunday.

The guest speaker for the 10 a.m. service will be Bro. Raymondo Brady, local preacher at Sills Creek AME Zion Church,  Mooresville.

All lay members are asked to wear black and gold for the service.

Yvonne Brown serves as Lay Council president and Rev. Carolyn D. Bratton is pastor.

Heaven’s Reign at Christ UMC

Christ United Methodist Church will host a special worship service on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and a covered dish meal will follow at noon. Heavens Reign from Mt. Zion UMC in Cornelius will be  at lunch to share their talent in song.

Salisbury Church of God concert

The Trailblazers will be performing an hour-long gospel concert at the Salisbury Church of God, 1715 Second St., on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The church will be observing Pastor Appreciation Day and a covered-dish lunch will be served following the service. The Trailblazers, an up-and-coming bluegrass band, has opened for Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Blue Highway and recently placed first at the Galax Fiddler’s Convention.

Stallings Memorial homecoming 

Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, 817 S. Main St., will conclude its month long homecoming celebration on Sunday. A video highlighting SMBC pastors and members will introduce the worship service. The Rev. Bobby Seagroves, church member and former associational missionary for the Rowan Baptist Association and interim pastor at Stallings, will lead in worship.

The Stallings worship choir under the direction of Dr. Steve Etters, will perform, accompanied by Dr. Wei Jiao, who will also provide instrumental music with Lee Walker.

The sermon will be delivered by current SMBC pastor Mike Herring. A covered dish lunch will follow. Tables will be decorated by Sunday School classes in themes from decade years1899- and the future. Videos focusing on former members and pastors, bridal couples married at Stallings, and youth and children of the church will run during the luncheon. The worship service is at 10:30 a.m.

Jackson Park’s 78th birthday

KANNAPOLIS — Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 715 Mable Ave., will celebrate its 78th birthday with a homecoming celebration on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with guest speaker Rachel Flores, daughter of the current pastor, Rev. Dr. Greg Gordon, and wife Wanda. A covered dish meal and the presentation of laity awards will follow the service in the church gym.

Anniversary event at Miller’s Chapel

Miller’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 920 Miller’s Chapel Road, will celebrate its 142nd church anniversary on Sunday. The  11 a.m.  speaker will be the pastor of the church, the Rev. H. R. Lawson. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.

The 3 p.m. speaker will the Rev. Dr. Derrick R. Anderson, pastor of Soldier’s Memorial AME Zion Church.

Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Knox Junior High school, Boyden High school, Hampton University, the University of Louisville (master’s degree), Hood Theological Seminary (master of divinity) and Asbury Theological Seminary, where he received his doctor of divinity degree.

Dr. Anderson is the son of the late Rev. Herman Anderson who was pastor of Soldier’s Memorial from 1962-72 and was Bishop of the AME Zion church 1980-95.

Gospel Lighthouse  homecoming

CHINA GROVE — Gospel Lighthouse, 35 Concordia Church Road, will be observing homecoming on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service. Preacher Trey Palmer will be the guest speaker. There will be a covered dish lunch afterwards. Info: 704-857-3390.

Women’s Day at Jerusalem Baptist

Jerusalem Baptist Church will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, during the 11 a.m. service. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Phyllis Jones, a native of East Spencer and a trial attorney in Fayetteville.

During the program, breast cancer survivors will be recognized. The highlight of the program will be announcing the JBC Women of the Year. Special music will be provided by women of Jerusalem and women of surrounding local churches.

All women in attendance are asked to wear white.

Woman’s Day at Trinity Presbyterian

Trinity Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Caldwell St., will celebrate Woman’s Day on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the theme of Women Deeply Rooted in God’s Word. The speaker for the occasion will be Dr. Y. Dianna Wright, Associate Presbytery for Equip and African American Ministries for Salem Presbytery in Clemmons, an education consultant and founder of Kuumba Center for Christian Education and Spiritual Growth, past president of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators, and moderator of the General Assembly’s Committee on Ecumenical and Inter religious Relations.

Women’s Day at White Rock AME Zion

GRANITE QUARRY — White Rock AME Zion Church, 785 White Rock Ave., will celebrate its 55th annual Women’s Day on Sunday with the theme I Will Walk By Faith Even When I Cannot See. The 11 a.m. speaker is the Rev. Margaret R. Anderson.

Rev. Anderson is the wife of the Rev. Dr. Derrick R. Anderson, pastor of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, where she serves as an associate minister.

All ladies are asked to wear white with purple accessories. If you do not have white please come as you are. Dinner will be served immediately after morning service. Dr. Kimberly Kelsey is the Women’s Day chair, Karen Hicks is co-chair and the Rev. Thomas D. Lee is host pastor.

Immanuel Lutheran celebrates baptism

ROCKWELL —Daryl Alexander Rich, infant son of Jodie and Dylan Rich of Gold Hill, will receive the sacrament of Holy Baptism on Sunday, during the 11 a.m.  service at Immanuel Lutheran. After the service will be a reception given by the Irene Beaver Circle.

Annual service at Shady Grove

The John G. Gaston Memorial Scholarship Ministry will hold its annual memorial service at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 600 S. Long St., on Sunday at 3 p.m., remembering the Rev. John G. Gaston’s 46 years of service and the 15 years since his passing.

The speaker will be Minister Darrius Campbell, a 2011 recipient of the scholarship fund and a graduate of Salisbury High.

Campbell is a 2015 graduate of AT&T of Greensboro where he serve as college minister for the Harvest City Church.

The Rev. Timothy Bridges Sr. is host pastor.

Appreciation service at Fairview Heights

The Pastor Appreciation Committee of Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road,  will welcome the Rev. Marcus Fairley as guest speaker on Sunday at 3 p.m.  Rev. Fairley is an associate minister of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. Host pastor is the Rev. Clarence E. Marlin.

Antioch Baptist’s 103rd anniversary

GRANITE QUARRY — Antioch Baptist Church will celebrate its 103rd church anniversary on Sunday at the 3 p.m.  service.

The historic Antioch Missionary Baptist Church was established in an old house with no electricity and no furniture in the community of Woodside (better known as Granite Quarry) in October of 1913 under the leadership of the Rev. John Kerns.

At 3 p.m. the Rev. Frank Butler, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church of Taylorsville, will be the guest speaker. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

The Rev. Rickey Johnson is host pastor.

Annual old fashioned hymn sing

CONCORD — The 50 voice Piedmont Choral Society will present its annual Old Fashioned Hymn Sing on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Forest Hill UMC, 265 Union St. North. The free event will feature older traditional, beloved hymns as well as several anthems by the choir. There will be lots of audience participation with hymn requests and group singing. Blessing of the animals at Christ Episcopal

CLEVELAND — Christ Episcopal Church, 3430 Old US Hwy 70, will host  its annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the covered shelter on the church grounds.

First Lady Day at Mt. Calvary Holy

Mt. Calvary Holy Church, 1401 Standish St., will honor First Lady Sadie V. Rice in its First Lady Day Celebration on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Guest speaker will be Lady Leah McNair, co-pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Thomasville.

Revival at Mount Zion Missionary 

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will celebrate fall revival Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 18-19 at 7 p.m. each night. The Rev. Dr. Larry W. Whitley, pastor of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Matthews, will be the evangelist. Music will be rendered by area choirs and the Music Ministry of Mount Zion.

Dr. Whitley was employed with the N.C. Highway Patrol Department for 30 years, managed 10 of North Carolina’s 100 counties, and retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in 2003.

Dr. Whitley served as Moderator of the former Mecklenburg General Baptist Association based in Charlotte, and as Pastor at Mount Moriah for the past 19 years.

Revival at Hall’s Chapel

The Men’s Fellowship of Hall’s  Chapel Primitive Baptist church, at the corner of East Monroe and South Clay streets, will host its annual fall revival  Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 18-20 at 7 p.m. nightly.

The Rev. Stanley Rice of Yadkin Grove Baptist Church will minister on Tuesday;

the Rev. Clarence Marlin of Fairview Heights Baptist church will minister Wednesday;

and Bishop Derek Kelly will minister on Thursday.

Soldiers Memorial AME Zion revival 

“A Real Church for Real People in a Real World” is the theme for the revival at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, 306 N. Church St.

The revival will be held Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 18-20. Dr. Otis T. McMillan, general secretary of the Department of Church Growth and Development of the AME Zion Church is the guest evangelist.

All services begin at 7 p.m. On Tuesday the First Responders of Salisbury-Rowan are the invited guests. Wednesday and Thursday nights are focusing on the family.

The celebration continues with homecoming services on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Rev. Dr. Derrick Anderson is host pastor.

Revival at World of Faith Outreach 

World of Faith Outreach Ministries, 5370 Stokes Ferry Road, will be hosting a two-day revival on Oct. 20-21, at 7 p.m.

Overseer Beatrice Vaughters from Ambassadors for Christ of Cleveland will be the speaker of the hour for both days of the revival.

Women’s conference at New Hope AMEZ

Rev. Dr. Debra J. Hall and the women of New Hope AME Zion Church cordially invite you to join them as they launch their week-end celebration of womanhood. Health and beauty fair at First Calvary

First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., will host a Women’s Health and Beauty Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and will include a discipleship Bible study, presentations on women’s health, low impact aerobic workout plus fashion, hair and makeup demonstrations. This event is free, but donations will be appreciated. Give in  honor of a cancer survivor or as a memorial. A light lunch will be served.

First Calvary Baptist Church’s Missionary Unit #6 will also offer blood pressure checks, mini workshops and health information.
