SALISBURY — The fourth annual Busker’s Bash will be on Friday, rain or shine.

Katelin Rice, promotions coordinator for Downtown Salisbury Inc., said the event was already rescheduled once, so Busker’s Bash will happen on Friday whether Hurricane Matthew dumps rain on the area or not.

Sue McHugh is the event’s founder and she continues to partner with DSI to coordinate the event.

The free event will have almost 40 performers at various locations downtown. Attendees can drop by the Salisbury-Rowan County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Rowan County Museum or Queen’s Gifts to pick up guitar picks and a walking map starting at 5 p.m.

From 6 to 8 p.m. attendees can visit the different performers and drop picks in the orange bucket of their favorites.

Along with performers from Salisbury, there will be performers from all over the state, including High Point, Winston Salem and Lexington.

At 8 p.m. the buckets will be collected and the picks will be counted. The top winners will be announced at the 9 p.m. finale at Morgan Ridge Rail Walk Brewery & Eatery at 421 N. Lee St. Once the first-, second- and third-place winners are announced, along with four honorable mentions, the public is invited to an open jam session during which anyone can perform.

The trolley will be transporting attendees throughout the downtown area from 5 to 9 p.m. and will also be available from 9 to 11 p.m. to transport attendees from the visitors bureau to the Morgan Ridge brewery.

Horse and carriage service will also be available.

About 50 participating downtown stores and restaurants will be open for late night dining and shopping.

Rice said the event has been successful in the past. About 1,000 people attended the event last year.

“It’s just a really good opportunity to introduce people to arts and culture downtown,” Rice said. She also said it was a good way to encourage people to visit downtown shops and restaurants.

Morgan Ridge’s brewery will be holding its grand opening on Saturday from 1 to 11 p.m., so Rice said attendees could use Friday to get excited about the grand opening celebration.

Also happening this weekend is the performance of John Oates at Lee Street Theatre on Oct. 7 and the 41st Annual OctoberTour on Oct. 8-9.
