‘Flavor, NC’ is back for another season

The search for the best in North Carolina food and agriculture resumes with the return of “Flavor, NC,”  which went to Asheville for last Sunday’s premiere on UNC-TV. This television series is devoted to the heart and soul of local food, with 10 new half-hour episodes for season six.

Agriculture is an $84 billion (yes, billion) industry in our state and “Flavor, NC” is introducing you to some of the people who are making that possible.

“I’m proud we have shared the stories of over 50 farmers who are striving to grow and harvest a variety of North Carolina agricultural products, and introduced viewers to over 50 chefs who are taking the time to source these locally grown ingredients,” said host Lisa Prince. “I can’t wait for viewers to meet 20 more in the new season.”

From the mountains to the coast, the show is cooking up everything from Spiny Dogfish tacos at Basnight’s Lone Cedar Café in Nags Head to Carolina Bison Brisket Pasta at Isa’s Bistro in Asheville. Season six will also feature Chef Scott Crawford cooking a Heritage Turkey, and recipes for a muscadine grape and gingersnap crisp, black poplar mushroom ragout, harvest tomato garlic toast, spring lettuce soup, blackberry cobbler and roasted butternut bisque with apple and bacon, just to name a few.

“Flavor, NC” is produced by the Emmy-nominated team at Blue Water Media, a full service television and video production company with offices in Winston-Salem. UNC-TV is North Carolina’s statewide public television network enjoyed by an average of 4 million viewers per week.

Underwriting support for “Flavor, NC” is provided by Got to Be NC agriculture, the official state identity program for products grown and processed by farmers and value added food companies in North Carolina; North Carolina Farm Bureau, the North Carolina Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Association and Got to be NC Seafood.
