North Rowan High School Class of 1966

My, my, 50 years, that can seem like a long time or yesterday. 105 students graduated from North Rowan High School 50 years ago. The afternoon and evening of Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, 47 of those classmates and their guests gathered together at TJ’s High Rock Grill to celebrate and renew long time friendships and relive past events, some factual and others somewhat factual.

Many thanks to the reunion committee, chaired by Nancy Shoaf Thomas, assisted by Rick and Carol Cruse Leonard, Kay Shoaf Hager, Steve and Jody Vail, Karen Rabon Broyhill, Bobbie Shuping Denny, Jean Cranfill Lefler, Doris Goodwin Shepherd, Marsha Gemayel Wood and others. Classmate Marolyn Brooks Johnson was given an extra thank you and acknowledgement for her many hours spent compiling a recap of the individual classmates last 50 years.

If the smiles, laughter and the reliving of past events were any indication, a great time was had by all. Decorations of green and white, school memorabilia, period music and photographs from the past, helped to carry the classmates back to the good old days.

Classmate, the Rev. Rockwell High School Class of 1958

The Rockwell High School Class of 1958 held its 58th reunion on Sept. 10 at Gary’s BBQ in China Grove.

A social hour began at noon with classmates reminiscing and catching up. Following a class picture, Bob Petrea gave the invocation prior to the meal.

Loretta Holshouser Warner was master of ceremonies, and provided everyone with class booklets. She introduced Kim Sheeks, who is known at The Hat Lady, who gave a comical program invovling over 100 hats.

Get well cards were signed nad mailed to the sick. Door pirzes were given out.

Deceased class members’ picture were displayed with a lighted candle.

‘Sorrow: the Art of Dying, Death, and Grief’ at CFA

Opening in the gallery at Center for Faith & the Arts is a multi-artist exhibit entitled “Sorrow: the Art of Dying, Death, and Grief.” The show includes 23 pieces from nine NC artists and will hang in the gallery Sept. 22-Nov. 11.

The opening reception is Thursday, Sept. 22 from 6-9 p.m. This exhibit is part of CFA’s ongoing exploration of grief and sorrow during the months of September, October and November.

“Concert in Death” is a musical exploration of grief and sorrow. The concert features local composer and performer Marc Hoffman, who will present a series of pieces and discuss how grief influences music and music expresses and heals grief. The concert is Thursday, Oct. 6. Admission is by donation, suggested minimum $10. All donations support the ongoing work of Center for Faith & the Arts, located at 207 W. Harrison St.
