ROCKWELL — N.C. Highway Patrol officials say a Salisbury man was charged Wednesday following a two-vehicle collision where he hit a pickup and then a house on Old Beatty Ford Road.

Richard Morris Doby Jr., 57, of the 300 block Ferndale Drive, Salisbury, was traveling west on Old Beatty Ford Road in a 2013 Totoya pickup. Gaylor Henderson Rattz, 46, of the 700 block of St. Peter’s Church Road, Gold Hill, was traveling east on Old Beatty Ford Road. Rattz was driving a 2016 Dodge pickup.

Doby traveled left of center and his truck’s side mirror collided with the side mirror of Rattz’s truck. Doby then traveled off the left side of the roadway, hit a ditch and then struck a house at 10135 Old Beatty Ford Road. The truck came to rest against the house.

Rattz traveled off the right side of the road, collided with a mailbox and then a ditch. His pickup came to rest in the Vision Baptist Church parking lot, just ahead on Old Beatty Ford Road. Stanley Dewayne Hardin, 49, of the 12400 block of U.S. 52, Gold Hill, was a passenger inside the Dodge.

Trooper H.T. Sloop said the co-owner of the Toyota pickup told him she could not provide proof of valid insurance. He also contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety where the owner of the vehicle was listed. There was no insurance on file for the pickup.

Doby was charged with driving left of center, driving while license revoked and no insurance. It does not appear that speed was a factor. A collision report shows Doby and Rattz appeared to be traveling the authorized 55 mph speed limit.
