SALISBURY — Attendees will be able to sample barbecue from national championship barbecue cooks at the sixth annual Biker Blues & BBQ Rally and BBQ Classic this weekend.

Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury is hosting the event and proceeds are going to the Hefner VA Medical Center Hospice Unit.

Friday’s festivities start at 3 p.m. and go on until 11 p.m. with vendors and entertainment. Blues legend Big Ron Hunter will be performing at 5:30 p.m. and country singer Darrell Harwood will take the stage at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, 71 teams from North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Florida are participating in the barbecue competition. Some of them are national champions, Gary Moss, event coordinator, said.

The Kansas City BBQ Society and North Carolina State Barbecue Championship sanction the barbecue competition.

The People’s Choice Contest on Saturday will let the public get a taste of barbecue from 10 teams for a $5 donation. The contest will start at 12:30 p.m. and continue until 2:30.

There will also be a Charity Poker Run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $15 for one hand and $25 for two. Moss said 100 percent of the proceeds from the poker run will go to the hospice unit.

The Delmonicos will provide the entertainment during the midday hours.

The event will go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, with awards for the barbecue competition to be handed out at around 4 p.m.

Tilley Harley-Davidson is located at 653 Bendix Drive.
