SALISBURY — Police charged a local man with attempting to rob Village Inn Pizza and say at least three others are being sought for involvement in the late August incident where an employee was pistol-whipped.

Shybious Montreal Duncan, 22, of Charlotte, was charged with felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. Police arrested him Wednesday at a Clancy Street apartment where they say he’s been staying.

He remains in the Rowan County jail under a $25,000 secured bond. A woman was also charged in the incident.

Police say Brittany Dannyelle Dalton, 23, was charged with felony accessory after the fact. Officials say she turned herself in at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office Wednesday night. She remains in the jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

On Aug. 31, police responded to the Statesville Boulevard restaurant after three masked men went into the restaurant after closing and forced employees to try to open a safe. The men’s faces were covered with bandanas, Police Capt. Shelia Lingle has said.

The would-be robbers ordered the employees on the floor and one of them had a gun, Lingle said.

An employee was forced to try to open the safe, but wasn’t able to get it open. One of the suspects tried to pry open the safe as well, but was also unsuccessful. A woman was struck with the gun and all three left.

Lingle said detectives conducted lots of interviews until they were able to determine a suspect. Other arrests are expected.
