The Rowan County United Way thanks lead sponsor Daimler (Freightliner), Duke Energy, the city of Salisbury, Erie Insurance Company, Rowan County, Agility Fuel Systems, Piedmont Natural Gas, Akzo Nobel, Chandler Concrete Company, the town of Granite Quarry, The Cove, PPG Paints, Ramsey, Burgin, Smith Architects, Shaver Wood Products, Cheerwine, Godley’s Garden Center, Vulcan Materials, Hurley Family YMCA and Rowan Rotary Club for sponsoring the Day of Caring event on Thursday. The YMCA hosted the breakfast and the Rowan Rotary Club cooked for the volunteers. The Salisbury Kiwanis Club also assisted.The Day of Caring Committee and Assessment Team are Denise Hallett, chair, David Freeze, Bill Godley, Craig Powers, Paul Robertson, Daniel Scruggs, Scott Trexler and Seth Waller. This group of volunteers worked tirelessly and put in many hours assessing job sites and ordering materials.“We are very grateful to everyone who made the 2016 Day of Caring a huge success. Without the support of our sponsors, companies, agencies, schools and volunteers it would not have been possible. We appreciate Amanda Raymond and the Salisbury Post for their coverage of the event,” Jackie Harris, campaign and marketing director, said.
Private piano studio to open in Spencer
Kimberly Lentz announces the opening of a private piano studio at her home in Spencer.
Lentz will offer lessons to children ages second grade and up, and to adults as well.
Lentz has a bachelor’s degree in music from Meredith College. She retired as a media assistant at North Rowan High School and was most recently the Children’s Ministry coordinator at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is also a member of St. John’s, where she directs the handbell ensembles.
A native of Spencer, Lentz is the daughter of Howard and Diane Everhart. Her children are Meredith Williams, who lives with her husband Jonathan in Salisbury, and Nicholas Lentz, who lives with his wife Mariah in Richlands. She has two grandsons, Ashton and Jackson Williams of Salisbury.

Rowan extension agent recognized at annual meeting
Danelle Cutting, local foods extension agent for Rowan County, was recognized at the North Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference in Nags Head, N.C.
The awards were: Search for Excellence in Farm & Ranch Financial Management, Communications Awards in Bound Book, Web Site, Published Photo and Caption and Poster for Applied Research.
Cutting was also recognized as the national winner for Published Photo and Caption for her photo of cedar apple rust gall at the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference in Little Rock Ark. Cutting competed with agents across the country in the poster session for Applied Research.
