Tonight: Service of appreciation 

There will be an appreciation service for Elder Norzely Krider tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Ambassador Christian Church, 726 Lincolnton Road. Overseer Beatrice Vaughters of Ambassadors for Jesus Christ Church will be the speaker. There will be various local and out of town singers and praise dancers.

Tonight: Movie at Kirkwood

KANNAPOLIS — Kirkwood’s Saturday Night Movie is “The Blind Side,” based on the true story of Michael Oher. 6 p.m. Free popcorn, drink and snack. Kirkwood Presbyterian is located at 900 Klondale Ave.

White Rock AME Zion homecoming and revival

GRANITE QUARRY — White Rock AME Zion Church, 785 White Rock Ave., will celebrate its annual homecoming on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be our own pastor, Rev. Thomas D. Lee. An old fashioned covered dish lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Derrick Anderson, pastor of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, is the 3 p.m. speaker.

Revival services will be held Tuesday through Thursday at 7 p.m. nightly with evangelist Rev. Wilbert L.O. Davis, pastor of St. Peter’s AME Zion Church, Gastonia.

Jerusalem Baptist homecoming and revival

SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St. Ext., will celebrate homecoming and revival throughout the entire month of September. Beginning on Sunday, homecoming will be a joint service with New Hope AME Zion Church during the regular 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Dr. Debra Hall, pastor of New Hope, will be the speaker. Dr. Hall is a native of Hickory and resides in Mooresville. She holds a B.S. degree and a master of divinity degree from Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary. Recently receiving her doctorate of ministry from Dayton, Ohio, she is the senior pastor of New Hope AME Zion Church in Spencer. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. Revival services will be held on three consectutive Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Antioch Baptist homecoming and revival

CLEVELAND — Antioch Baptist Church, 968 Triplett Road, celebrates its homecoming, anniversary and annual revival. The homecoming/anniversary is at 3 p.m. Sunday, with guest speaker Rev. John N. Leazer, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church of Concord. The 11 a.m. speaker on Sunday will be the Rev. Eric Imes, associate pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church of Concord. Annual revival services are Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 7-9 at 7 p.m. The speakers are as follows:

Wednesday: Antonio D. Johnson Sr., pastor of Bethel Baptist Church of Kannapolis;

Thursday and Friday: Timothy Bridges, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church of Spencer.

Pastor Priscilla Overstreet and co-pastor Calvin Overstreet’s 29th pastoral anniversary services at Holy Tabernacle of Jesus Christ continue Sunday at 11 a.m. Held at 325 Malcolm Road.

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries

Women’s conference at Henderson Grove

The Missionary Department of Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will host a Women of the Bible Conference on Saturday, Sept. 10 beginning at 9 a.m.

Featured speakers include Emma Geter of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Rockwell; Gladys Jones of United Missionary Baptist Church in Kannapolis; Brenda Rucker of Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church; Cynthia Seymore of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church in Statesville; Valarie Watkins of Jerusalem Baptist Church; Minister Lovetta Miller of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church; and the Rev. Alice Perry of The Vineyard Worship Center.

Homecoming at The Arbor UMC 

The Arbor United Methodist Church, 45545 Woodleaf Road, will have homecoming on Sept. 11 with guest speaker the Rev. Sybil Perrell of Woodleaf. There will be a covered dish meal after the 10:30 a.m. service at the church picnic shelter. Frank and Mary Gordon are co-pastors.

Homecoming at Christ Episcopal 

CLEVELAND — Annual homecoming at Christ Church, 3430 Old US Hwy 70, is Sunday Sept. 11 and features a covered dish luncheon in the parish house after the 10:30 a.m. service. Coffee and doughnuts is at 9:15 a.m. in the parish house followed by Bible study at 9:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist is celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Community-wide Gospel Fest

EAST SPENCER — On Sunday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. New Life Community Church will host a Music and Arts Gospel Fest. This a community-wide event for East Spencer, Spencer, Salisbury, Lexington, High Point, Winston-Salem and Statesville.

‘A Day at the Cross’

MOCKSVILLE — Sept. 14 is commemorated as Holy Cross Day. With that in mind, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, on 601 South, is celebrating with “A Day at the Cross.” On Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon until 4 p.m., Holy Cross Lutheran offers free hot dogs, Cheerwine, games, face painting and a bounce house. Rain date Sept. 17.

Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival

MOCKSVILLE — Coming Sept. 10: The Carolina Bible Camp bluegrass festival is America’s only bluegrass festival that promotes Bible study and wholesome music and recreation.

Parents and grandparents who are looking for a family-friendly event that strikes the right chord with everyone will find it at the fifth annual Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival, held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This unique outdoor festival will be held on the CBC campus’ sixty-eight acre property at 1988 Jericho Church Road. The bluegrass-plus line-up includes international favorites Scythian (sith-ee-yin). This Washington, DC based band plays sets which always keep crowds on their feet with gypsy songs, Irish ballads, and “immigrant rock with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling songwriting.” Traditional bluegrassers Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice will also appear. Sisk is the 2013 IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year. The line-up also includes the festival’s annual guests, the Snyder Family Band, featuring Zeb Snyder on guitar, Samantha Snyder on fiddle, and Bud Snyder on bass. Tim White, the hugely popular emcee of the award-winning public television program Song of the Mountains will return to the festival with his band Troublesome Hollow.
