Volunteer scholarships awarded

Special guests at a luncheon following the July 21 meeting of the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Auxiliary Board owf Directors were winners of the 2016 Volunteer Scholarships.

Those honored were Kolby Reagan Fisher, Madison Lynn Howe, Jordan Elizabeth Osbourne, and Ariel Marie Peoples. The Auxiliary offers scholarships to selected graduating senior who are currently serving as volunteers at NHRMC. Scholarship funds are used to further the education of the winners at the school of their choice. The Youth Volunteer program is directed by Diane Hundley.

 

Granite Quarry High School Class of 1950

FAITH — The Granite Quarry High School Class of 1950 held its annual reunion at the Family Life Center of Faith Baptist Church on August 6. Twenty-five classmates, spouses and guests attended.

Roana Bost welcomed the group with special recognition to former teachers Doris Ritchie and Jean McCombs.

Mary Ellen McCombs gave a memorial tribute to the following deceased classmates since the last reunion: Margaret Ann Walton Broadway and Nathyln Fesperman Fisher.

Vice president Roana Bost presided over the business, and enterainment was provided by the classmates on memories of their high school days. The Senior Class Prophecy and Last Will and Testament were read from the annual.

The following officers aggreed to serve: Roana bost, president; Sherry Eagle, vice president; Gaynelle Morgan, secretary; Frances Peeler, treasurer.

A catered meal and fellowship were enjoyed by the following: Baxter Linebarger, Sherry Gantt Eagle (Clement), Eunice Silliman Heilig (Harry); Clyde Brown Jr. (Ann); Mary Ellen Jarrett McCombs; Verne McCombs; Marian Misenheimer Bernhardt; Shirley Peeler Rhinehart; Mary Earnhardt Powlas; Lottie Ritchie Simpson (Harry); Jean Broadway Holshouser; Grace Bost Sapp; Joyce Thomas Trexler; Frances Beck Peeler; Herman Ritchie; Gaynelle Fulk Julian-Morgan (Melvin); teachers Doris Ritchie and Jean McCombs; and guests Phil Holshouser and Ruby Green.

The next reunion will be held Aug. 5, 2017; time and place to be announced.

 

College Night Out is Friday

6-9 p.m. Aug. 25— Downtown Salisbury hosts College Night Out where students, family, faculty and staff are invited to a night of music, food, games, prizes and more. Participate in an ice cream eating contest or take your chances in the Dunk Tank. Trolleys will pickup students at Catawba College, Livingstone College, Hood Theological Seminary and Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Activities will take place on West Fisher Street.
