Vivian Howard, chef, restaurant owner, and star of the PBS show “A Chef’s Life,” will headline a fall season dedicated to the American farm at Reynolda House Museum of American Art.

“A Morning with Vivian Howard Presented by Lowe’s Foods” will feature a reading and talk by Howard and a book signing of her new cookbook, “Deep Run Roots: Stories & Recipes from My Corner of the South.”

The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. in Reynolda Village, the original farm of the Reynolda Estate. Tickets include a copy of the cookbook, light brunch with mimosas, and admission to Reynolda House and its featured exhibition “Grant Wood and the American Farm.” Bookmarks, a Winston-Salem based literary arts organization, is the event’s promotional partner.

Tickets are $75 per person, and went on sale for members of the museum and donors to Bookmarks Monday. Tickets will go on sale for the general public on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. Tickets will be available online at reynoldahouse.org/vivianhoward.

Howard, a James Beard Award winner, has risen to popularity since opening her restaurant Chef & the Farmer in Kinston in 2006. She and her husband opened a second restaurant, The Boiler Room, just a few years later. The restaurants, which have become a destination for diners from all over the country, are known for serving local, seasonal cuisine and source more than 70 percent of their food from within 60 miles of Kinston. The first restaurant inspired the award-winning PBS series “A Chef’s Life,” now in its fourth season.

Cheeseburger, cheeseburger

Fox News Magazine has ranked the “healthiest” to ”unhealthiest” cheeseburgers in the fast food world. Some argument can be made that there is no such thing as a healthy cheeseburger.

But, here we go, from best to worst.

1 Checkers and Rally’s has 430 calories. We don’t have either chain in this state.

2. Hardee’s thick cheeseburger, quarter-pounder: 450 calories.

3. Dairy Queen Cheesegrillburger, quarter-pounder: 540 calories

4. McDonald’s Cheeseburger, quarter-pounder: 540 calories.

5. Five Guys “Little” Cheeseburger: 550 calories. Five Guys came and went pretty quickly here.

6. Wendy’s cheeseburger, quarter-pounder: 570 calories.

7. Whataburger (not our What-A-Burger) cheeseburger: 590 calories.

8. Burger King Cheeseburger quarter-pounder: 630 calories.

9. Sonic cheeseburger quarter pounder: 710 calories.

10. Nathan’s Cheeseburger: 750 calories. Don’t have those, either, so we’re safe from the worst.
