SALISBURY —A 31-year-old Salisbury man and a passenger died in a crash on Old Mocksville Road on Sunday night. The Salisbury Police Department has released the name of one of the victims.

Demario Jefferies, from Salisbury, was killed in the single-vehicle accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene, along with one passenger.

The department was not ready to release the name of the second victim, as of Monday evening.

Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said the 2002 Jaguar was traveling on Old Mocksville Road headed out of town when Jefferies lost control of the vehicle, overcorrected and hit several trees before coming to a stop at the 1800 block of Old Mocksville Road.

The road was closed down for more than three hours.

Lingle said speed appeared to be a factor in the accident. Jefferies and the passenger were wearing seatbelts.

Lingle is waiting on confirmation that the family of the passenger has been notified before releasing that person’s name.
