SALISBURY — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the bridge on Henderson Grove Church Road over Town Creek between South Main Street and Peach Orchard Road, closing a portion of the roadway.

Work will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8. The new bridge is scheduled to be open by June 15, 2017.

Motorists will navigate around the work using a  3.7-mile detour on Peach Orchard Road and South Main Street.

The Henderson Grove Church Road Bridge project is part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges. The existing bridge is functionally obsolete and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it.

Westbound and Eastbound detours will be in place along South Main Street/U.S. 29, Long Meadow Drive, Southmark Drive, Cedar Springs, Peeler Road, Hader Street and Peach Orchard Road.
