CONCORD – Cabarrus County’s local government ranked sixth on the 2016 Digital Counties Survey for 2016 in its population category, up from seventh last year.

The rankings were announced in a press release by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. The annual survey recognizes leading examples of counties using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies.

Cabarrus previously ranked second in 2015, and eighth in 2012 and 2013.

The survey, conducted bythe Center for Digital Government and the Digital Communities program, in partnership with national counties group, identifies best technology practices among U.S. counties.

Wake County won first place in the 500,000 or more population category. Sonoma County was first in the 250,000-499,999 group.

Arlington County, Va., placed first in the 150,000-249,999 population category in which Cabarrus came in sixth. Davidson County ranked seventh.

The smallest population category, under 150,000 population, was won by Nevada County, Calif.

“Digital counties have evolved to recognize the value of technology, empower their tech leaders and use new ideas to make life better for everyone who lives and does business in the county,”said Center for Digital Government Executive Director Todd Sander.

“Modern technology allows counties across the country to innovate, providing citizens with smarter, more cost-effective services,” said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase. “The Digital Counties Survey recognizes county innovations that truly benefit our communities and, by extension, America.”
