STATESVILLE — A Salisbury man has been arrested in Statesville after the man jumped off a bridge to elude deputies.

Michael Anthony Brown, 34, of the 1500 block of South Main Street, Salisbury, was stopped by Iredell County Sheriff’s deputies Weston Parks, Charles Davidson and David Golden for careless driving, a vehicle registration violation and crossing over the center line.

They asked to search Brown and his vehicle, and Brown stepped out of the vehicle. While Davidson was searching for a weapon, Brown began to fight with him and brook loose, running away from deputies, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies chased him, repeatedly telling Brown to stop and show his hands to deputies.

Parks tried to use his Taser on Brown, but it was ineffective. Brown ran and jumped off a bridge on Davie Avenue, got up and tried to run.

Golden was able to stop Brown in the creek below the bridge. Brown was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; he remains in custody of the Iredell Sheriff’s Office.

Brown has warrants for one count of felony possession of cocaine, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of assault on a government official and three counts of resisting a public officer. He will be served when he is released from the hospital.
