Rowan weather: Heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m.

It was 76 degrees at 5 a.m. this morning, with humidity at 100 percent, the hottest morning of 2016 so far.

Rowan County is under a heat advisory today from noon to 8 p.m., with the heat index around 103 degrees. It’s going to be brutal.

The day will be mostly sunny with a high of 95 and mostly calm wind until this afternoon, when a hot wind from the southwest will blow at 5-8 mph. There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today after 3 p.m.

Tonight has a 40 percent chance of showers and storms before midnight. It will be partly cloudy with a low of 74.

Thursday won’t be much better, with a high of 93 and the heat index around 100 degrees. There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9 a.m., but it will be mostly sunny. Again, the wind will be calm until the afternoon, when it will come from the southwest at 5-9 mph.

Thursday night has a 20 percent chance of showers and storms, with a low of 73.

Friday has a 30 percent chance of storms and rain, too, mainly in the afternoon. It will be mostly sunny again, with a high of 92. Southwest wind will blow at 7-11 mph. Friday night has the same chance of rain, with a low of 71.

The weekend offers little relief. Saturday’s high will be 92, with a 30 percent chance of showers and storms from noon on into the night. The low will be 72
