SALISBURY — Police charged two men with breaking into area businesses; one man was caught on surveillance video.

Salisbury Police charged Frank Larry Graham Jr., 32, of the 600 block of Maple Street, Granite Quarry, and Martin Franklin Efird, 37, of the 100 block of Mitchell Street, East Spencer, with two counts felony breaking and entering and two counts felony larceny.

Officials say the two were involved in break-ins at True Value Hardware and Advance Auto Parts last month. Authorities released a video recorded on store surveillance and the two were developed as suspects.

The owner contacted area pawn shops and discovered the two tried to sell chainsaws at Quick Cash Pawn. Police received a description of the truck the men were in and the truck was spotted at one of three hotels in the area the two would frequent, said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.

Police talked to others with connections to the break-ins. An officer was able to match the men and the truck to the one used in the break-ins and the one seen on video at the pawn shop.

Graham was convicted in 2013 of being a habitual felon and possession of a schedule I substance. He’s also been convicted of larceny, felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, failure to register as a sex offender, and selling a schedule II substance.

Efird was convicted of possession of schedule II substance, larceny, and felony larceny of firearms.

Both men remain in the Rowan County Detention Center — Graham under a $25,500 secured bond and Efird under a $20,000 secured bond.

Lingle said both men were located in the Rowan County jail where they were being held following an arrest prior to the Salisbury Police arrest.
