Three more file for school board

SALISBURY — According to the Rowan County Board of Elections, on the second day of filing three more candidates signed up to run for the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education.

Three seats are up for election, this fall: Seat 3, the east area, currently occupied by Josh Wagner; seat 5, Salisbury area, currently occupied by Chuck Hughes; and seat 7, southeast area, currently occupied by Susan Cox.

On Monday, contenders Mike Julian and Andrew Poston filed to run, opposing two of the board’s three incumbents shooting for re-election. Poston filed for seat 7, against Cox, and Julian filed for seat 3, against Wagner. Both candidates declared their intent to run earlier this year after the board heard a scenario that proposed closing six area elementary schools.

A third candidate, William Robertson, also filed for seat 7, bringing the number of candidates running for the southeast district to three, with a total of six candidates running for the Board of Education this fall.

Anyone interested in running for one of the three Board of Education seats has until Friday, Aug. 19 at noon to file Those interested in filing must live in the area in which they plan to run.
