SALISBURY — A China Grove man remains in jail this morning charged with possessing products to make a meth lab. This comes nearly a month after a child was injured when he found and opened backpacks that contained the chemicals.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Avery Michael Bostian, 23, of the 100 block of Constance Court, with felony possession of immediate precursor chemical and two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was issued a $6,500 secured bond and remains in the county jail.

Authorities said in June the 6-year-old found two backpacks hidden in some bushes behind an Andrews Ford Road home. There were chemicals, including sulphuric acid, in the bag that are used to make methamphetamines, but no active lab or finished product.

The young boy suffered burns to his upper body and face. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and has since been released. Officials have said they expected him to fully recover.
