Update: Severe storms headed this way

Update: A cluster of thunderstorms with intense lightning will impact
north central Mecklenburg… Rowan… Cabarrus… Iredell and Davie
counties until 445 PM EDT…

At 359 PM EDT… Doppler radar indicated the leading edge of a cluster
of thunderstorms with intense lightning along a line extending from
13 miles north of Statesville to 6 miles southeast of Huntersville…
and moving east at 35 mph.

Locations to be impacted include…
Huntersville… Kannapolis… downtown
Concord… Salisbury… Statesville… Mocksville… northeast
Charlotte… West Concord… Cornelius and Mooresville.

In addition to intense lightning… wind gusts up to 50 mph… and
very heavy rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will be possible
in these areas.

No matter what forecast you see this week, it’s going to be very, very hot. Some forecasts say we’ll reach 100 degrees by Friday. Others say 96 or 98.

It’s time to make sure pets have a cool place to rest and plenty of water. It’s also time to check on your neighbors and friends who may not have air conditioning. Make sure they have a way to handle the heat.

We have a 30 percent chance of showers and storms this afternoon, and it will be sunny and hot, with a high of 93. With the heat index, it will feel like 100 degrees. Winds will come from the west southwest at 7-13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tonight, we have the same chance of storms and showers, with patchy fog forming after 4 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy and 72, with west southwest winds at 3-6 mph.

Wednesday will have a 30 percent chance of showers, then showers and storms, throughout the day. It will be partly sunny, with a high of 92 and west wind at 3-7 mph. The low will be 72 again, with the same chance of rain and west wind at 3-5 mph.

Thursday will be partly sunny and 92, with the usual 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly after 11 a.m. Winds from the west will increase to 5-9 mph. And there’s still a 30 percent chance of rain Thursday night, with another low of 72.

Then there’s no mention of rain through next Monday.

Friday will be mostly sunny and extremely hot, with a high of 96. The low will be 74.

Saturday’s high will be 95, again with mostly sunny skies. The low will be 72.

Sunday is more of the same with a high of 92, mostly sunny skies, and a low of 70.

And Monday will be mostly sunny and 91.
