ROCKWELL — A Salisbury man allegedly used a bow and arrow to try to kill his ex-girlfriend and her friends at a Rockwell home this weekend. Authorities say Jody Edgar Hall, 46, shot an arrow through a bedroom window of his former girlfriend’s home.

Hall, 46, showed up at the home, located in the 500 block of Ellen Street, around 10:40 p.m. Sunday with the bow and arrow, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigators said.

He was charged with three counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and three counts of felony first-degree burglary. Hall, of the 3400 block of St. Peters Church Road, Salisbury, was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond for the domestic incident and $250,000 for the burglary offenses.

The victim told investigators Hall showed up and began threatening her. She was at the home with two friends, a man and a woman. The victim heard yelling and thought it was a neighbor, but when she went to the door she didn’t see anyone so she sent her dogs out.

Hall began yelling from the front yard, and the victim saw he had a bow and arrow, she told deputies. She began to close the front door just as Hall drew back to release the bow, she said.

The victim said Hall tried to force his way in through the front door, but was unsuccessful. She went to a bedroom where her male friend was lying on the bed and that’s when Hall fired an arrow through the bedroom window over the friend’s head, and it stuck into a wall.

Hall told them if the victim didn’t come outside he’d burn the house down, according to a report. The victim called 911 and deputies searched for Hall, but did not immediately find him. His moped was found parked on the property. He later said he climbed to the top of a tree and hid.

While a deputy went to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office to obtain an arrest warrant, other deputies searched the area. Hall returned to the Ellen Street property and tried to kick in the door, the report said. The victim called 911 again to say Hall was back and had his bow and arrow.

Deputies responded and Hall was arrested. He remains in the county jail under a domestic hold. No one was injured.
