Salisbury man charged after drugs found in rectum

SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged with cocaine and marijuana possession following a traffic stop when he was found with the drugs in his rectum. Police report they found a total of 36 grams of the drugs and pills.

Salisbury Police charged Jamel Lesamuel Tarver, 28, of the 300 block of Donner Drive, with misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer; felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a controlled substance schedule II, misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana, misdemeanor maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for controlled substances, misdemeanor simple possession of schedule III controlled substances, and possession of schedule II controlled substances.

An officer stopped a vehicle that had an unreadable license plate and spoke with the driver, later identified as Jamel Tarver. There were two others in the vehicle, who were not charged, said Capt. Shelia Lingle.

Lingle said Tarver tried to run, but was apprehended. Once taken into custody, he was searched. Officers found 2 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of crack cocaine and 29 grams of subutex pills in a plastic bag hidden in his rectum.

Police also found $650 in his shorts pocket. Tarver remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.

Tarver is on probation for an April conviction for felony drug possession. He’s also been convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a schedule II substance.
