Opening reception at Pottery 101 Friday

Pottery 101 will host an opening reception on Friday, June 24, from 6-9 p.m. featuring the ceramic works of Meghan Bernard.

Originally from Michigan, Meghan received her BFA from Michigan State University. She currently makes her home in Hendersonville, where she says she receives daily inspiration from the nature that surrounds her studio. ‘Reading In the Park!’ 

Great Women and Men United presents “Reading In the Park!” at Cannon Park, 611 Park Ave. from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. This event is all about the importance of Reading. Great Women and Men United will be dressed as favorite children’s storybook characters and will be available at the park to read to the children. The children will also be served ice cream with toppings, given a small surprise and they will be able to choose a book to take home.

Salisbury Ghost Walk — 8 pm. Friday-Saturday, June24 and 25: Walk covers six-block area down town. Tales of shadow ghosts, apparitions, orbs in 1800s Salisbury. FAITH — The Town of Faith’s annual street dance is June 25 from 7-11 p.m., featuring live music by The Swashtones.

Carolina ATV Flat Track Riders Series

Coming Saturday to the Rowan County Fairgrounds: Carolina ATV Flat Track Riders Series, ATV/UTV Mud Bog Sprint.

Heat races are $25 per class to race the track and /or mud pit. Heat races begin 3 p.m., the main event 7 p.m. Kids race free in the 50 cc class.

Calling potential Little Mr. and Miss Farmer contestants 

CHINA GROVE — Farmers Day 2016 in China Grove will be celebrated on Saturday, July 16.

Pre-registration is required this year for the Little Mr. and Miss Farmers Day contests, by Wednesday, July 13.

The contest is open to the first 20 applicants of each age group, which are: infant-2 years of age and 3-5 years of age.

All entries must be received by July 13. No entries will be accepted on Farmers Day. The contest will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Hannah Park Stage.

Attention Rowan County singers

Anyone interested in choral singing in Rowan County is invited to attend a discussion about singing in a choir on Thursday, June 30, in the rehearsal room of the Meroney Theater, 7-8:30 p.m. Members and board of the Rowan-Salisbury Choral Society, Concert Choir, local church choirs, high school choirs, and anyone who enjoys singing in a choir is invited to attend and express their opinion. The meeting is being convened by the music director of the Salisbury Symphony, David Hagy. Light refreshments will be served.

Kannapolis Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Festival is Saturday

KANNAPOLIS — Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Festival continues in its fourth season in downtown Kannapolis this Saturday, with more than 50 arts and culture vendors set up on West Avenue. The streets will be filled with all forms of family friendly arts and culture.

The festival will also feature local food trucks, belly dancers and a children’s area.

Originally started by a group of volunteers, who form the Kannapolis Arts division of the volunteer organization Downtown Kannapolis Inc., the program has grown thanks to its partnership with the City of Kannapolis.

The festival is also a part of the Kannapolis Arts program, which showcases local artists by displaying their art work in the empty windows in some of the downtown Kannapolis store window fronts.

Let’s Get Messy! — Age 14-adult. One evening pottery class offers the opportunity to try your hand at the potter’s wheel without committing to a full session of classes. Pottery Wheel Class for Kids — One-day pottery class for children ages 8-13. Learn the basics of wheel throwing, make and decorate pots on the pottery wheel. Limited to eight participants.
