Rowan weather: Bad air and extra warm temperatures today

Summer begins today and it’s going to feel like it for the rest of the week.

To start, we are under an air quality action alert that began at 6 a.m., and runs through 9 p.m. tonight. It is a code orange day, with high concentrations of ground level ozone.

People with heart or lung disease, those with asthma, children and older adults should avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the alert.

It will be sunny and 87 with light wind from west southwest this afternoon. Tonight will be partly cloudy and 66.

Tuesday brings a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. It will be mostly sunny and 90, with southwest wind at 6-9 mph.

Tuesday night also has a 30 percent chance of rain. It will be mostly cloudy and 69, with west southwest wind at 5-9 mph.

There’s a 40 percent chance of showers and storms Thursday, mainly after 1 p.m. It will be mostly sunny again, with a high of 89 and winds from the west at 3-7 mph. The same chance of rain lasts into Wednesday night, with a low of 70.

Then it’s back to a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for Thursday, mainly after 2 p.m., with partly sunny skies and a high of 91. Another 30 percent chance of showers and storms Thursday night, with a very sticky low of 73.

Friday will be partly sunny and 89, then a 30 percent chance of showers and storms moves in Friday night, with a low of 68.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high of 86 and a low of 66.

Sunday will be 87 with mostly sunny skies.
