SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged with breaking into an outbuilding of a couple who let him stay on their property. He’s also charged with using his brother’s ID to pawn the stolen items.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Phillip Ray Creel, 36, of the 1200 block of Barger Road, with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

Authorities say a Rockwell couple let Creel, who is a friend of their son, stay in a camper on their property. The couple said he broke into an outbuilding and took several items including ladders, a nailer, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, a rotary hammer and laser tool.

Sheriff’s officials say the items were taken to Eagle and Whitaker Jewelry and Pawn in Granite Quarry, Rowan Gun & Pawn in Salisbury, and Boulevard Pawn in Kannapolis from May 1 to June 5.

He was issued a $30,000 secured bond and remains in the Rowan County Detention Center.
