AKA makes local playground donation
On Thursday, May 26 members of Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presented a child’s picnic table, playground balls and sandbox toys to Kiddie Land Kindergarten Child Development Center as part of the sorority’s international program. The Child Development Center is located on Long Street and has served the community for many years.

The 1908 Playground Mobilization Project Community Impact Day is designed to improve playgrounds utilized by children as well as the entire community.

Between 2015-2018, Delta Xi Omega will select a different community or school playground each year to restore, refresh, and renew during the month of May. The focus of the program is to ensure safe and inviting places for children to play. With the participation of chapters and chapter members all over the United States, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, International President, has set a goal of restoring, refreshing, and renewing 1,908 playgrounds each year.

Lillian L. Morgan is the president of the local chapter and Sh’Myra L. Moore is Program Chairman. Sarah S. Lightner and Brenda J. Alston served as coordinators of this project.
