Nazareth Fun Fest celebrates 110 years on Saturday

ROCKWELL — Nazareth Child & Family Connection, at 855 Crescent Road, will celebrate its 110th anniversary on Saturday with Fun Fest 2016, from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event will include live entertainment, children’s games, food, a model air show, car show and firetruck display, as well as a craft show. The raffle winner will be pulled at 4 p.m., but you do not have to be there to win.

JCPrice Post 107 annual Memorial Week celebration continues through Saturday

This annual event, the major fundraiser for the J.C.Price Post, features carnival rides, a midway, memorial services for veterans, Gospel sings, raffles and more. Located at 1433 Old Wilkesboro Road. For more information, call 704-636-2950.

Call for artists

Center for Faith & the Arts is sponsoring a themed gallery exhibit titled “Sorrow: The Art of Dying, Death, and Grief” to run in conjunction with the Sacred Spaces Tour of area cemeteries.

Artists are invited to submit works on this theme for inclusion in the exhibit. Center for Faith & the Arts is located at 207 W. Open house and reading program at Faithful Friends 

Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary June open house is Saturday from 11a.m.-1 p.m. Find about the summer reading program, check out the sanctuary, and learn more about our volunteer program at 220 Grace Church Road.

On Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. starting June 15 and running through July 20, bring your own book or select one from the shelf. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Detaila are posted at www.faithfulfriendsnc.org

Salisbury Swing Band opens for Pops at the Post

The Salisbury Swing Band (right) will again play the warmup for this year’s Pops at the Post downtown on Saturday at 5 p.m., featuring the sounds of Gershwin and Glenn Miller, all the way to the top hits of the ’70s and ’80s.

The annual Pops at the Post concert begins at dusk, led by Maestro David Hagy (below).

Rowan County: Painting in All Directions

Paintings by Plein Air Carolina members will be exhibited at the Main branch of Rowan County Public Library, 201 W. Fisher St., from June 1-30.

Local artists Carolyn Blackman, Barbara Duffy, Harold Frontz, Leslie Frontz, Rachel Lee, Cathy Matthews, Don Moore, Phyllis Steimel and Beth Taft will show work from the Outdoor Painting Friday meetings that occur throughout Rowan County.

Visitors are invited to come into the library to vote for their favorite painting. The Public Choice winner will be announced at the end of June.

Family movie at RPL Tuesday

Rowan Public Library, 201 W. Innes St., will supply the popcorn and lemonade for this family movie series.

Children must be accompanied by a parent.

Reception Friday evening at Waterworks 

A reception hosted by Community Care of Southern Piedmont is scheduled for Friday, June 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Waterworks Visual Arts Center. The two entities are partners in presenting the interlocking exhibitions titled “525,600 MINS. – Time and Place,” in the form of a juried group show and a public conversation wall.

Also on display are selected works from this year’s winner of the Dare To Imagine Award, Eli Helms.

A second reception to meet and honor the VAE member artists and Helms will be held Friday, June 10. Informal gallery talks with the artists begin at 5 followed by the reception at 6.

‘Mr. History’ and New Moon

KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis History Associates presents an evening with Norris and New Moon.

Norris Dearmon, “Mr. History,” will chat with long-time business man New Moon Jung. These two well-known Kannapolis leaders will have an open conversation as we learn from New Moon the history of his family moving to the United States and how they ended up in Kannapolis.

We will learn the role J. W. Cannon had in convincing the family to move to and work in Kannapolis. We will find out how New Moon became a business man himself in K-Town.

Salute A World War II Hero: Doug Parnell

LEXINGTON – A visiting speaker presented by the Lexington Public Library History Hunters Genealogy Club, Parnell is a veteran of World War II.

He served in the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment of the Army in Europe and says, “It was my job to find the enemy.”

He will be speaking on Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. in the Lexington Public Library, 602 Main St.
