JCPrice Post 107’s annual Memorial Week celebration, commemorating the 97th American Legion Anniversary, is May 27-June 4. This annual event features carnival rides, a midway, memorial services for veterans, Gospel sings, raffles and more.

Schedule of events:

• May 29:​ ​Special program: 11 a.m. Post everlasting services for departed veterans, at White Rock AME Zion Church, Granite Quarry.

• May 30, 31 and June 1: Gospel Fest 6-9 p.m. with emcee Roland Carter.

• May 28: at 8 a.m., Flags placed on graves at National Cemetery, breakfast follows.

• May 30: 10 .m. Flags placed at Brenner Ave. cemetery at the VA.

• June 2: Raffle for bicycle and electronic devices with the purchase of a wristaband for midway rides.

• June 2-4: Rides on the midway by TC amusements.

• Entertainment amd music at the​ ​Post​ auditorium 9 p.m.-2 a.m.

• Community vendors on the midway: food, snacks, novelties, photo booths, more

Artists reception tonight at SBC

The Salisbury Business Center collaborates with local artists to display artwork in a variety of mediums. A reception will be held this evening, May 26, from 6-8 p.m., at the Center, free and open to the public through Aug. 1.

Artists showcasing their artwork include student artists from the Salisbury Art Station as well as seasoned artists such as Guy Raymond, Bailey Wingler, Patt Legg, Hope Holmes, Amber Poteat, Mark Riley, Sue McHugh, Ethan Strickland, Don Moore, Keyth Kars and more.

All artwork is available for purchase from the artists.

Salisbury Parks and Recreation hosts Movies in the Park beginning Friday

On Fridays this summer, the popular summer series Movies in the Park returns. Pre-movie entertainment begins at 8 p.m., the movie at 9 p.m.

This free family movie night is held at City Park on Lake Drive. Bring your own blanket or lawn chair. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Waterworks presents ‘525,600 MINS. — Time and Place’

Waterworks in partnership with The Community Care of Southern Piedmont will present two exhibitions that dovetail to explore the twin concepts of time and “our place in the word,” a juried group show, sourced thorough an open call to artists and a public conversation wall.

The wall was inspired by New Orleans’s artist Candy Chang who, following the sudden and unexpected death of a dear friend, needed a way to cope with her loss and bring clarity. With the help of friends she turned the side of an abandoned house into a giant chalkboard, and stenciled it with a fill-in-the-blank sentence: “Before I die, I want to…” Little did she know the magnitude of responses and the positive impact on communities across the globe it would create. Since the original wall was erected in 2009, more than 400 walls have been created in over 25 languages and in over 60 countries.

Waterworks will create four Before I Die engagement walls installed within the gallery spaces at the art center. The goal of the public response wall is not only to provide a space for visitors to share personal aspirations, but additionally serve as a platform for education and conversation around Advance Directives (individual advance care planning).

Six or up to seven Before I Die public response depositories will be constructed and placed in high traffic facilities in Rowan and Cabarrus counties, including two local hospitals, a public library, and three college campuses. Responses will be collected and brought to the gallery and featured in a special display.
