I-85 closure scheduled next week

Starting May 31, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will close a portion of southbound I-85 in Salisbury and an eastbound entrance to the interstate.

The closure starts at 8 a.m. on May 31 and is scheduled to end by July 15 at 6 a.m, according to a news release. Motorists will be restricted to using the two, inside travel lanes between exits 76 — Innes Street – and 75 — Jake Alexander Boulevard. The Innes Street entrance onto I-85 southbound will be completely closed. A detour to Jake Alexander Boulevard has been established to Jake Alexander Boulevard for motorists who wish to enter I-85 southbound.

The closures will be for pavement rehabilitation and bridge preservation.

Additional lane and shoulder closures will occur between exits 76 and 75 on northbound and southbound parts of I-85 until October 20, according to the release.

Weather may affect the length of the closures.
