Summer reading at Rowan Public Library includes On your mark, get set … READ! for children 1 year to rising fifth-graders and Get in the Game … READ! for teens, rising sixth- through 12th-graders.

On your mark, get set … READ! Rowan Public Library invites kids to join the library for a fun-filled summer of programs and great reads. Registration opens Monday, May 16, at all library locations for children ages 1 year to rising fifth-graders.

Reading hours may be tracked June 9 through Aug. 8. Prizes are awarded when children read one, five, 10, 15 and 20 hours. Children who read 20 hours will receive a special certificate and are entered in the 20-Hour Reader Raffle to be held on Aug. 10. Door prizes are raffled at the weekly school-aged programs. To enter, children write and submit an Olympic Reader Review prior to the start of the program.

The kick-off celebrations, Bookworm Bootcamp, will be Thursday, June 9, 3:30-5 p.m., at South Rowan Regional, China Grove; June 10, 1:30-3 p.m., at East Branch, Rockwell; and June 11, 10 a.m.-noon, headquarters. Weekly programs will begin June 13 and run until July 28. Rowan Public Library staff will be on hand to entertain the youngest participants and professional performers will help captivate the school-age children.

Family programs will again be offered at Cleveland Town Hall and reading hours can be tracked there at the time of the programs.

Reading All Stars — 1-year-olds; A highly interactive 30-minute program for children and adult caregivers; four weeks, June 13 through July 7. RPL Headquarters, Wednesdays, 10 a.m.; South, Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.; East, Mondays, 10 a.m.

Little Champs — 2-year-olds; A highly interactive 30-minute program for children and adult caregivers; four weeks, June 13 through July 7. Headquarters, Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.; South, Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.; East, Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.

Little Leaguers — 3- to 5-year-olds; 30-45 minutes per program; doors close at 10:40 a.m.; seven weeks, June 13 through July 28. Headquarters, Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.; South, Mondays, 10:30 a.m.; East, Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.

Olympic Readers — rising first through fifth-graders; 45-60 minutes per program. Storytellers, educators and entertainers provide different fun-filled programs each week for seven weeks. Turn in your Olympic Reader Review prior to the start of the program to enter the weekly prize drawing. Headquarters, Wednesdays, 2 p.m.; South, Tuesdays, 2 p.m.; East, Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.; Cleveland, Thursdays, 10 a.m.

Performer lineup: June 13-16, Cold Blooded Encounters; June 20-23, Criss Cross Mangosauce; June 27-June 30, Mark Daniel, Magical Storyteller; July 5-7, Ro & Mo; July 11-14, Life as Art Productions, with April Turner; July 18-21, Grey Seal Puppets; July 25-28, Lee Street Theatre.

For teens, Get in the Game…READ!  Starting June 13 and running through July 29, all rising sixth- through 12th-graders are invited to participate. Teens can earn points to be redeemed for raffle tickets for prizes this summer. Each teen will receive a booklet when they register for summer reading. The booklet is a way to keep track of points earned by reading and attending teen library activities.

Prizes from the raffle drawing will be awarded during the Annual National Teen Lock-in at Rowan Public Library headquarters July 29, 6:30-10:30 p.m.
