SALISBURY — The search for a missing Salisbury man is over after he was found in Charlotte on Tuesday, Salisbury Police said.

Police issued a silver alert on Monday for Luigi Aloysuis Pontes, 55, who walked away from a veterans’ home. He was believed to suffer from dementia and was in need of medications. He left on foot and it was not clear how he made it Charlotte.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer found Pontes after he’d been at Carolinas Medical Center being treated for a minor issue, said Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle. The alert had not been created when the officer saw him. When the officer went back to the hospital, Pontes was gone.

Officers returned to the area and began searching for Pontes. He was found late Tuesday. He is in the custody of the Rowan County Department of Social Services and is fine, Lingle said.

She said it’s not clear where Pontes was headed, but he used to live in Charlotte.
