Catawba dropped its regular-season finale, 4-1, at 17th-ranked USC Aiken on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Pacers improved to 36-14, while the Indians fell to 34-19.
Zac Almond homered for the Indians.
Shaefer Shepard (5-5) took the loss. He pitched into the into the seventh and allowed 10 hits. Five relievers closed out the game for the Indians.
Catawba will return to action in regional play on May 19.
Catawba and Mount Olive have qualified for the regional by winning their conference tournaments.
The Peach Belt Conference tourney won’t start until May 11. The Peach Belt tourney winner and three at-large teams will complete the regional field.
The Indians will find out their opponent and the site of the regional when pairings are announced by the NCAA at 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 15.

Intimidators
Kannapolis rolled, 12-3, aginst Lakewood on Saturday at Intimidators Stadium.
Postgame fireworks helped boost attendance to 3,718.
Seby Zavala went 3-for-4 for Kannapolis.
Johan Cruz and Antonio Rodriguez also had multi-hit nights.
Tanner Banks. Banks registered his league-leading sixth win. The unbeaten lefty scattered seven hits and walked none while striking out five.
The win was the largest margin of victory for Kannapolis this season.
The Intimidators play the Lakewood BlueClaws today at 2:05 p.m.

Prep baseball
The Greater Cabarrus Stallions won twice on Saturday, defeating the Home Plate Citadels (Ga.) 15-4 and defeating the Charlotte Stampede, 13-3.
Hunter Shepherd and Clay Pinion had three hits each in the first game.
Dalton Lankford had two hits and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Noah Jarrett hit a three-run homer.
In the second game, AJ Knight hit two homers and drove in four runs. Shepherd hit a three-run homer.
Winning pitcher Sawyer Strickland had two hits.
The Stallions have completed their season with a 30-6 record.

Pairings are expected to be released on Monday for the state playoffs. Games will be played Wednesday.

East hoops camp
Mustang Basketball Camp will be held at the East Rowan gym this summer.
East boys coach Kurt Misenheimer is the head instructor. Sessions are limited to 50 applicants.
There are two sessions.
The June 13-16 sessions is for boys and girls who will be in grades 2-5.
The June 20-23 session is for boys and girls who will be in grades 6-9.
Camp is from 8 until 3 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from 8-12 on Thursday.
The cost is $100 and includes a camp T-short and lunch the first three days.

Rotary tennis
Entry deadline for the Salisbury Rotary Tennis Championships is May 23.
Proceeds will benefit Rowan County Youth Services Bureau and The Crosby Scholars Program.
