SALISBURY — Food Lion provided free lunches to about 300 Rowan-Salisbury school teachers to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week on Tuesday.

Teachers at Hanford-Dole Elementary, Isenberg Elementary, Southeast Middle and Carson High schools received a fresh salad or sandwich, piece of ripe fruit and a bottle of water.

Teachers were also able to receive a 5 percent discount on their total purchase at participating Food Lion stores on Tuesday with a teacher ID.

The giveaway was a Random Act of Freshness, part of Food Lion’s “How Refreshing” advertising campaign.

The company has improved local stores, including product assortment expansion to include natural and organic produce meats and other products, customer-centric training for associates, price investments and store remodels.
