CONCORD — ClearWater Artist Studios and the Department Of Fine and Applied Arts at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College announce the annual RCCC Student Art and Design Exhibition, “Impulse,”  to be showcased in ClearWater’s Main Gallery for the third year in a row. The opening reception on Friday, 5 to 7 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Refreshments will be served.  Student artists and RCCC Faculty will be present. Other works by leasing artists at ClearWater will be on exhibit in the secondary Gallery. The student art show will be on exhibit through May 7.

“The Impulse show is a highlight every spring, and we’re happy to be continuing this partnership with RCCC’s Fine and Applied Arts Department,” said Sarah Gay, manager at ClearWater. “We hope this show celebrating students’ works, along with exposure to professional artists leasing here, helps students see art as a viable career or at least an important part of one’s life.”

The partnership will grow this year with a new annual event, the RCCC faculty show, coming to ClearWater in October. That exhibit will feature several artist lectures by the faculty for the benefit of area residents.

ClearWater Artist Studios is in the city’s former WaterWorks and Electrical Operations buildings, at 223 Crowell Drive NW, Concord. It is near historic downtown Concord and the Gibson Mill, and is accessible from Interstate 85 via Poplar Tent Road, which becomes McGill Avenue, and at which Kerr Street ends. Parking is plentiful and free in lots marked with ClearWater signs.

Gallery hours vary, but generally include Tuesday evenings until 7 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
