On Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department will host a document shredding event in the parking lot of Village Park, 700 West C Street.

Please note – this will be document shredding only. The Earth Day shredding event, sponsored by Cintas Document Management, is free to the community. Residents can bring up to five average-size file boxes of paper to be securely shredded on-site and then recycled.

Home ownership tips

Are you interested in becoming a home owner? Need to know more about how to buy a home, the process of applying for a home loan, or need information on down payment assistance?

“Learn the Steps to Home Ownership” on April 26,  5:30-8 p.m. at Kannapolis City Hall, 401 Laureate Way. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a light meal and then a program on the home ownership process. A drawing for a $100 gift certificate will be held during the meeting.

The city, Cabarrus County, the N.C. Housing Coalition and Prosperity Unlimited, Inc. are joining together for this Fair Housing Workshop.

Recognition

Kannapolis was among 14 North Carolina governments to earn recognition in the Ninth North Carolina City & County Communicators’ (NC3C) Excellence in Communications Awards. The city won three first place awards and a second place award.

The awards were presented April 14 at the NC3C’s annual spring conference in Chapel Hill. More than 70 entries were received, with many categories having the winners determined by one or two points.

“Our organization is full of city and county government communicators who are excellent at what they do. They are innovative, creative, passionate, and dedicated, and that shows in their work,” said NC3C President Glenn Hargett. “It was an honor to preside over the program, viewing these exciting demonstrations of work to communicate the stories of the jurisdictions they serve.”

Kannapolis received the first place award in Marketing Tools – Direct Mail or Print Advertising Category for the 2016 Discover Fun In Kannapolis special events mailer and the first place award for Most Creative Project with Least Dollars Spent for the Get Healthy Nights at the Kannapolis Intimidator ballgames. In the category of Special Events – Recurring, the city won both first and second place honors for the Run Kannapolis Series and Get Healthy Nights at the Kannapolis Intimidator game.
