MOCKSVILLE — Authorities are looking for a Newton man who they say was last seen wandering in a wooded David County area without a shirt and shoes.

The Davie County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Andy Scott Sigmon, whose vehicle was found abandoned April 5 on the roadside of East N.C. 64, just north of Peter Hairston Road. The 23-year-old has no known connection to Mocksville and neither his family or friends know why he would’ve been in the area.

Officers responded to that area at 2:30 p.m. on April 5 and spoke with Sigmon, who did not seem distressed or in need of help. He reportedly told an officer he would leave the area. Later the same day, witnesses spotted a man matching Sigmon’s description walking around the woods “acting strange.”

Davie County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy J.D. Hartman said witnesses told investigators Sigmon “was talking out of his head.”

Investigators conducted a land and air search, but have yet to find Sigmon. A private search on the ground found his shirt this weekend, Hartman said.

Sigmon’s mother, Gail, said the behavior witnesses described is out of character for her son. She said he’s always in contact with someone. He had gotten off work Monday around 11 p.m. in Newton.

The only thing Gail can think of is her son was on new prescription medications, which could potentially cause hallucinations and confusion. She speculates perhaps he took something else in conjunction with the medication that made him spacey.

Sigmon has two scars on the middle of his forehead that he got when he was a toddler and cartilage that protrudes in the middle of his chest, as well as scratches or cuts to his left forearm.

Andy Sigmon is 6 feet tall, 140 pounds, has hazel eyes and brown hair. He would’ve been wearing blue jean carpenter pants, brown boots with duct tape on the toe, as well as a blue “mechanic-looking” shirt with Andy written on a name patch and a Renwood Mills patch.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Andy Sigmon is asked to contact Detective Justin Stutts at the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, 336-751-5547 or jstutts@dcsonc.com.
