Area Sports Briefs: Salisbury gets soccer, baseball wins

Salisbury’s soccer team won 5-2 against Central Cabarrus on Thursday.
Katie Bullock had a hat trick for the Hornets.
Ellen Simons and Ceci Cardelle also scored for Salisbury.
Julia Honeycutt had three assists. Bullock and Cardelle had the other assists.
Salisbury got outstanding play from Kathryn Rusher.
The Hornets take on West Davidson on Monday night at Ludwig Stadium.

Prep baseball
Salisbury rolled to a five-inning, 11-1 win against Lexington in CCC action at Robertson Stadium on Thursday.
Harrison Smith pitched a complete game for the Hornets (8-7, 4-0 CCC) with eight strikeouts.
Alex Yang doubled and scored three runs. Chandler Lippard scored twice. Griffin Myers went 2-for-2.
Stallions
The Greater Cabarrus Stallions defeated St. Vincent (Md.) 14-3 on Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C..
McConner Wallace pitched four innings, and Trent Berry pitched the fifth.
A.J. Knight had three hits. Hunter Shepherd had two hits. Seth Cauble tripled, and Wallace doubled.
The Stallions will play South Pointe (S.C.) at 6 p.m. today in Rock Hill.

Prep softball
South Rowan rallied from a 14-7 deficit and beat Northwest Cabarrus, 17-15, on Thursday in SPC action.
Makayla Strickland hit a two-run homer for the Raiders.
A.L. Brown
A.L. Brown’s softball team won 4-0 against Robinson in a non-conference game on Thursday.
Kaylee Cook pitched a two-hitter and struck out 13 batters. Allie Baker had two RBIs.
The Wonders (11-3) return to league play today at North Meck at 5 p.m.

Wells Fargo Cup
Wells Fargo, along with the NCHSAA, announced the standings in the Wells Fargo Conference Cup competitions (overall athletic excellence) after the winter sports season.

Mid. school baseball
West Rowan won 9-6 against Southeast.
The Bulldogs (4-1) were led by Zeb Burns and Jonny Hassard with three hits apiece. Burns and Michael Molenda combined for a strong pitching performance.
West will travel to Knox and China Grove next week.

Prep golf
In SPC golf at Cresecent on Thursday, East Rowan shot 140 to win easily.
East Rowan scores included medalist Logan Shuping (32), Nick Lyerly (35), Christopher Queen (36), Bryson Sprinkle (37) and Ben Rollins (38).
Other team scores were Robinson (165), Concord (168), Carson (170), Hickory Ridge (180), South Rowan (183), West Rowan (184), Cox Mill (194), NW Cabarrus (197) and Central Cabarrus (211).
Concord’s Stephen Carroll and Zach Boatwright shot 37s. Concord’s Walker Cress and Robinson’s Riley Smith shot 38s.
Patrick Street’s 40 led Carson. Parker Chavis shot 41 to lead South Rowan. Davis Tadlock’s 43 led West Rowan.
CCC
In CCC action at Corbin Hills, West Davidson won with a 162 total.
Other team scores were Salisbury (172), East Davidson (180), North Rowan (218) and Thomasville (256).
West Davidson’s Nic Lamberth was medalist with a 39.
Salisbury scores were Simon Post (41), Robbie Bergstone (42), Alex Antosek (43) and Jacob Pryor (46).
Leading North Rowan were Jonathan Britton (45) and Spencer Everhart (47).

Prep tennis
Carson won 5-4 against South Rowan in SPC tennis.
Graham Purcell, Lucas Sides, Trexler Cloninger and Hunter Smith won singles matches for the Cougars.
The team of Purcell/Smith won in doubles.

College tennis
Queens swept Catawba’s women’s tennis team 9-0 on Thursday. Queens won the men’s match 8-1.
