Rowan weather: Windy today; rain Thursday

The freeze warning is still in effect until 9 this morning. Temperatures have dipped as low a 26 and remain below freezing even as the sun is coming up.

We’ll warm up to 59 today under sunny skies, but the wind will not give up, blowing from the south at 6-11 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. The low tonight will be 51 and winds will pick up, blowing in a chance of rain for Thursday. The south wind will start out at 9-14 mph, increasing to 16-21 mph after midnight and gusting up to 32 mph.

A 90 percent chance of rain starts around 5 a.m. Thursday, with thunderstorms possible. The rain chance continues through the morning, with a high of 65 and west southwest wind at 10-16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. The chance of rain decreases as the day wears on. Thursday night has a 30 percent chance of showers with a low of 43 and west wind at 5-11 mph.

Friday has a 20 percent chance of showers before 3 p.m., then will be mostly sunny and 58 with west winds at 5-14 mph and gusts around 20 mph. Friday night’s low will be 36.

Saturday should be sunny, but cooler, with a high of 51 and a low of 30. No frost or freeze advisories have been issued yet.

Sunday will warm up to 57 under sunny skies, and the low will be 40.

Much warmer for Monday, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 70. A 40 chance of rain moves in Monday night, with a low of 52.

The chance of showers is 60 percent Tuesday with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 68.

Forecasters say we are already behind on precipitation this year and need a soaking rain.
